Last month, students from Tangi Nyeusi Primary School hosted two students from Skeptunna School in Sweden. The visit was part of the cultural exchange programme supported by Ol Pejeta’s community department, which aims to connect local schools with those in Europe and the USA. The students are able to gain new perspectives on cultures and climates, as well as discuss topics they are learning in school.
The students from Skeptunna were treated to traditional dances and games with their new Kenyan friends, and also sat in on a class. They brought with them pens, crayons, books and posters to donate to the school, which were received with appreciation from the students at Tangi Nyeusi.
This is a school that borders the northern part of Ol Pejeta. The school struggles with a lack of teaching materials, as well as teachers themselves. There are only two full-time teachers here, who were very grateful for the educational materials and stationery donated by the Swedish students.
At Ol Pejeta, we believe in enhancing the development of the communities surrounding the Conservancy, and see this as the only way to ensure our conservation goals are sustained in the future. Find out more about our community programmes.
