It was all smiles and jubilation last week at Ereri Pimary School after a new water filtration system; sponsored by The Nobelity Project was unveiled. In a colourful ceremony graced by Turk Pipkin, Founder and Director of the Nobelity Project and several staff from Ol Pejeta, the Ultraviolet (UV) water sterilisation system was officially commissioned and handed over to the school.
This system will enable the over 360 pupils at the school access clean drinking water. This will reduce the occurrence of water borne diseases among the students, a problem that was rife before due to lack of clean drinking water. The UV sterilisation system is also far much more cost effective than other water purification methods and much safer to use since no potentially hazardous chemicals are used.

In previous years, Ol Pejeta and the Zeitz Foundation partnered to provide water tanks and facilitate the building of a water bank in the school, respectively. This to a great extent managed to resolve the water scarcity problem that had been a burden to the school in previous years. However, there were teething problems due to lack of a water purification system to enable the pupils have clean drinking water. Thankfully for the students, the Nobelity Project, an American nonprofit, stepped in and sponsored the installation of an ultraviolet water steriliser.
Ereri Primary School is located in the remote northern area of the Conservancy, where households, schools and health centers struggle with poor infrastructure and services. Lack of access roads, electricity and even clean running water can make life very tough for community members. Hopefully the new system will help provide these pupils with a conducive learning environment that will enable them to succeed in their studies.
