On Friday 12th February, several Ol Pejeta staff found themselves suspended 40 feet above a forest canopy. Some alternated between nervous laughter and terrified silence, others spent their time reassuring their colleagues. Nothing like putting the fear factor into a good day of teambuilding!
The Top Performers Club, made up of Ol Pejeta staff members, organised a day out for middle managers in nearby Ngare Ndare Forest. The aim was to build trust, teamwork and good relationships among staff members, many of whom never get the opportunity to interact due to the sheer size of Ol Pejeta's workforce, and the different locations of each department.
The day began with a long hike through the dense Forest, made up of indigenous trees and home to countless bird species. Some staff members were fitter than others, and their encouragement helped those less familiar with hiking to complete the trail. There was no rest awaiting them at the end however, as they launched into sack races and other games.
The day ended with a walk on the canopy trail. This is a 450 metre suspended bridge that gives visitors an amazing 'monkeys-eye-view' of the forest below. The bridge is not only high, but bouncy, and swings with the weight of walkers. This really tested the Ol Pejeta team's newfound trust in each other.
The day was a huge success, and has boosted morale making for a more productive environment for all departments. The Top Performers Club are already planning the next adventure.
