NEW DIGS FOR RHINO RANGERS

The African Wildlife Foundation have funded 4 new housing blocks for Ol Pejeta’s rhino rangers, aimed at boosting morale and distributing rangers for more effective patrols.

Every sports coach knows that looking after your players off the pitch, makes them better performers on game day. Here at Ol Pejeta, we believe the same philosophy applies to our rangers. Our black rhino population has jumped from just 42 in 2004, to 113 today – largely because of the tireless work of our rhino rangers. Not only do they conduct anti-poaching patrols and follow up on suspicious incidents, but they are also in charge of sighting every single rhino in the conservancy at least once every three days. Think of it as a game of hide and seek across 90,000 acres!

We are indebted to this team of rhino guardians. With funding from African Wildlife Foundation we have built 4 new ranger housing blocks across different parts of the conservancy that will house 12 rangers. This is an upgrade from their current housing, one aimed at boosting the morale of one of the most important people in our frontline conservation. The placement of the housing units will also ensure a more even distribution of rangers across the conservancy, making for more effective patrols and cutting down on travel time.
