Our team of working dogs make a huge difference in our ability to track, apprehend, and deter poachers. Their speed, agility and incredible sense of smell makes them more effective, and let’s face, a lot cuter, than any piece of man-made technology in so many conservation security situations, that their popularity in Kenyan wildlife reserves and parks is growing.

That is why Ol Pejeta has partnered with Ol Jogi Wildlife Conservancy to breed two of the best bloodhounds on the block. Backbore, a male from the Ol Jogi K-9 team and our tracker dog Scarf had 10 puppies, born on the 24^th March 2019. Sadly, we lost one early on, but remain with nine strong healthy pups, that will go on to serve in K-9 units across the landscape.

Two puppies will stay on Ol Pejeta and train to be scent detection dogs. One male will join his dad at Ol Jogi. Three puppies will be donated to nearby Ol Maisor and Mugie ranches to join their security teams, and three are still looking for good homes, where they can make a difference to safety and security for wildlife and people.
