It's safe to say that most Ol Pejeta staff spend their working days covered in a thin layer of dust (or mud in the rainy season!). But on Saturday February 27th, we had a rare opportunity to scrub up and get into our finery for the SAWA Dream for Africa Ball.
Held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nairobi, the ball was aimed at raising funds for rhino conservation on Ol Pejeta. A large number of us attended, led by CEO, Richard Vigne who also delivered the keynote speech. Whilst food, fun and laughter was flowing, the main purpose of the ball was not lost on attendees, who helped us raise a whopping 1.5 million Kenya shillings for rhino conservation. Ol Pejeta will be the sole recipient of the funds which will be channeled to the Security Department on the Conservancy.
SAWA is a non-profit organisation of South African expatriate women who volunteer their time, energy and love in order to give back to communities of their host nation. In Kenya, SAWA, with the support of various donors, hold an annual gala dinner aimed at supporting social and environmental development initiatives. Many thanks to SAWA for supporting our rhino conservation efforts on Ol Pejeta.
