Seven New Classrooms for Njoguini Primary School Pupils

The 23rd of March certainly was a day that won’t forget anytime soon. Students, teachers and villagers started trickling into the Njoguini Primary School compound from as early as 7 am in anticipation of the official unveiling of seven new classrooms. These classrooms were built through a partnership between Woodpecker International Education Consulting, Beijing China and Ol Pejeta Conservancy as part of our community development initiatives.

In a colourful ceremony graced by the Laikipia County Governor, HE Joshua Irungu, several local leaders and Ol Pejeta Conservancy staff, the classes were officially handed over, much to the delight of pupils, parents and locals. The classroom construction was part of a larger three phase project that began in 2014. Phase one of the project saw five classrooms being built with an additional two classrooms being built in phase two. Phase three of the project, will include the construction of an administration block, a staff room and a library and this will commence later this year.

A wall mural, painted by the staff from Ol Pejeta and students of Njoguini primary school was also unveiled by the Governor.  The mural was sponsored by the Rufford foundation and it is aimed at stimulating students to become agents of change in their societies to ensure a healthy environment for all.

Before the intervention of Ol Pejeta, the infrastructure at the school was dilapidated but thanks to assistance from Ol Pejeta and its partners, the school has received a tremendous facelift and now many young scholars can learn in a proper environment.

Ol Pejeta supports more than 36 schools surrounding the Conservancy through infrastructure development, provision of bursaries and provision of school stationery and literary materials. Learn more about our education initiatives in surrounding communities here.
