Last month, we held the fourth edition of the Last Male Standing Cricket Rhino Cup on Ol Pejeta between 15th – 17th June 2018. It was the biggest tournament yet, and sadly the first without Sudan, who died on March 19th of this year. 16 teams played cricket matches over three days, and included participants from the Caribbean, South Africa, Mauritius, Zambia, England and Australia as well as Laikipia and Nairobi.
This year’s tournament was won by Kanbis Sports Club, who won an exciting final against Kenya Kongonis CC. Meanwhile, South African/Mauritius side GRIT were awarded the Sudan Memorial Cup by making the highest donation of the event (US$10,000!). We would like to congratulate all the teams on a fantastic effort and to thank all the spectators who came to support them.
We were honoured to have ABC & BBC’s Jim Maxwell delivering live commentary on the final game, assisted by Australian international scorer Ian Wright. They added an extra dose of excitement to the proceedings and kept us all on track throughout.
All profits raised from the event are split between two great charity projects - rhino conservation at Ol Pejeta, and the Foundation for Youth Cricket & Education in Kenya. We are delighted to announce the total amount of funds raised for this year’s tournament was just over US$ 30,000. We’re all already looking forward to next year’s Last Male Standing Cricket Rhino Cup!
